Cal Performances Presents: Mark Morris Dance Group at Zellerbach Hall

Exciting news for fans of the Mark Morris Dance Group: Not only is the delightfully musical company finally returning to Cal Performances with one of Morris’ most touching contemporary classics (“V”, on Robert Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E flat) major) – Morris is also bringing his latest effort, “Water”.

Choreographed to Handel’s masterful “Water Music”, the dance premiered outdoors last summer at the company’s Brooklyn base; at UC Berkeley, he will be transferred, for the first time, on stage. There will also be plenty of Morris pop fun to enjoy, with the cover of the wacky 1998 “Dancing Honeymoon”. And true to Morris’ eclectic musical knowledge, the program also includes a haunting duet to modernist music by Henry Cowell, “Jenn and Spencer”.

Tips for the diary

You only have to walk a few blocks from the campus to discover the recently revised menu at Henry’s, a longtime favorite of the pre-game crowd. Run by Chris Kronner of KronnerBurger fame, there’s of course a new burger, bar snacks, and what former Chronicle reviewer Michael Bauer considered top-notch cocktails. If you’re from Bart, Downtown offers a lot more dining options to choose.
