Summer is heating up, this week before July 4, when some go looking for something to do and others are looking for air conditioning or the beach. There are still activities galore, some for families and others just for adults. Take your pick and, as always, be careful.
National Showbiz Talent Dance Competition 2021
From Wednesday until July 5 at the Ocean Center, the competition features dances ranging from hip hop and contemporary to jazz and street funk. The grand finale is scheduled for Monday July 5.

Fridays with the family at One Daytona
Get everyone out to go to One Daytona on July 2nd. An event the whole family can enjoy, Family Fridays take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring an interactive DJ, race cars on a five-lane derby track, free giveaways, specials on food and entertainment and more. Again.

Flagler Avenue Ice Cream Social
Another family event and a popular way to beat the heat, the Ice Cream Social on Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach should keep everyone happy. Scheduled for Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., it’s an opportunity to “taste all the ice creams prepared in multiple ways!” according to the publicity of the event.

Red, White, and Blue Street Party and Tropical Drink Pub Crawl
This pre-July 4th celebration will take place Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight on Main Street, from A1A to Peninsula, in Daytona Beach. Live music, drink specials and food trucks will be available, and the event will be followed by fireworks over the ocean. The street party is part of the Rock the Block Summer Series.

Boxers and Southern Crosses
As part of the Star-Spangled Summer Concert Series, the Friends of the Bandshell and Boardwalk Merchants present two groups: The Boxers, a tribute group to Simon and Garfunkel; and Southern Cross, a tribute band to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, for a concert starting at 7:15 p.m. Saturday in the Bandshell.
The Boxers, brothers Todd and Greg Pitts, are known for their harmonies and mixed voices. Southern Cross, consisting of Mitch Ballard, Steve Medeiros and Jim Shannon, has been performing together for several decades.
