The DHiE inter-school group dance competition for Zone A took place on Saturday at St Joseph’s High School for Boys on Museum Road.
About 55 schools participated in the competition – 25 from the junior group and 30 from the senior group.
In the junior group, BGS NPS, Hulimavu, won the first prize. The second prize was won by APS Public School and the third prize was won by Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidyamandir School, Est.
In the senior category, Apollo NPS won first prize; Rashtriya military school won second and DBM and RJS high schools in Koramangala won third.
Vivid themes like female feticide, Swachch Bharat Abhiyan and female empowerment seemed to be the motto of the day for the students of the senior group. From hit Bollywood acts to groovy sandalwood songs, schools have indeed given their best. While the Aurobindo International School in the senior category revived the famous mask dance from the classic film ‘Navrang’, the students of the Rashtriya Military School represented the culture of Goa through their dance to the song ‘Ya ya mayaya ‘.
The colorful props used by the students during the dance added extra color to the performances. Accessories such as hoops, dandiya sticks, brooms and ribbons were used by dancers to enhance their performances.
The group dance competition for Zone-B schools will take place on November 29.
