In one interview, she said: “The content is complicated, it’s dark and there are times that are honestly very hard to swallow, I understood that we were going into something difficult, but these kids today are so exposed to things that I would never even understand when I was eight. My cousin teaches in third grade and they do things and say things that I couldn’t even understand. I feel like if that’s what we’re gonna talk about, we might as well do it in a way that’s gonna be honest, it’s gonna be real, and it stays true to the book.
