Man City midfielder banned from Copa America after injury
Manchester City midfielder Yangel Herrera has been ruled out from the rest of the Copa America due to injury.
Herrera, 23, missed Venezuela’s tournament opener against Brazil and then returned as a second-half substitute against Colombia. However, he then suffered a minor fracture to his right shin in that game and will now be forced to miss his team’s remaining games.
The talented midfielder is one of many players City expect to use to boost their transfer funds this summer after impressing on La Liga loan with Girona. Southampton, West Ham and several Spanish clubs have shown interest in recent months.
Having previously played at another sister club in City – New York City – Herrera has been on the City Football Group radar for several years and his successful adaptation to European football has increased his value.
Keeping Herrera at the Etihad next season hasn’t been totally ruled out, but with Fernandinho set to sign a new deal and the potential for Jack Grealish to arrive, there is already a lot of competition for a place in midfield. . Any club that comes close to Herrera’s £ 20million price tag is unlikely to be dismissed as the Blues look to raise money to sign at least two first-teams this summer to build on another brace championship-cup.
City will have to hope that Herrera’s latest injury issue doesn’t deter any contenders from stepping into this transfer window.
