Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus is set to leave the club this summer
Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus is rumored to be leaving the Etihad this summer. If the reports are to be believed to be true, then his possible destination could be Juventus.
To add more fuel to this speculation, former City star Danilo recently said he would like to see his Brazilian teammate join the Bianconeri unit. His words were :
Gabriel is strong and very intelligent. In Italy, he could still grow because in Serie A the teams come together well and it is more difficult to score. If I could, I would take him to Juventus.
Although Danilo’s words can be taken as friendly advice. However, I do believe that there is more to this than it looks as we all know Jesus had a hard time at the Etihad last season.
Pep Guardiola’s tactic of playing without a proper number 9 was indeed one of the main reasons the Brazilian striker missed regular playing time. Faced with the facts, Pep’s idea did wonders for the team, but it came at the cost of removing both Jesus and Sterling from the starting side.
The former Palmeiras striker was short on starts and as a result he also took a hit on goal stats. Last season, the 24-year-old striker made 29 appearances in the Premier League and scored just nine goals. According to Transfer market, out of 29 appearances, the striker had collected 22 starts and was therefore limited to just 2059 minutes in the English top flight.
Things turned from bad to worse for Jesus as he not only suffered a dry run in the current Copa America competition but was also suspended two matches for his quarter-final red card against Ecuador. This means that the Brazil international will be absent for the selection for the decisive final against Argentina on Saturday.
So the question is whether Manchester City will retain their current No.9 for the coming season?
Honestly, I think the Cityzens won’t be keeping Jesus for another season. The Sau Paulo-born forward has had a decent stint at the Etihad since his summer move in 2017. However, Pep’s current first-team plans may not involve the Brazilian forward.
With Spurs forward Harry Kane being heavily linked with the move to Manchester City this summer, it is a clear sign that the Sky Blues are looking for a new No.9.
I’m sure Jesus wouldn’t enjoy the bench role for another season so it will be better for him to change bases this summer.
Juventus are on the verge of pushing town forward and I think an offer worth £ 40million may well tempt the English champions to sell their current striker.
