Manchester City’s new signing who turned Real Madrid down
Manchester City’s newest South American prospect Dario Sarmiento has agreed to join the club in April 2021 and will join the club next summer.
Sarmiento joins the long list of illustrious South American stars to play for Manchester City. This includes the recently deceased Sergio Aguero, Fernandhinino, Pablo Zabaleta and Gabriel Jesus.
Sarmiento has represented Argentina in the Under-16, Under-17 and Under-20 levels, while also playing 22 games for Argentine club Estudiantes.
The Argentine who joins Cityzens for £ 5million is the second youngest player to ever play for his childhood club Estudiantes. Asked about the interests of
other big clubs, including Barcelona and Real Madrid, Sarmiento said Marca, “The truth is I don’t know [of any other clubs interested], but as soon as they told me about the real possibility of Manchester City, I didn’t hesitate, it made me very happy and I didn’t want to hear anything else.
As someone who grew up idolizing Kun Aguero, it wasn’t a very difficult decision for the 18-year-old to make. He was quoted as telling Marca: “Agüero is a club idol, the top scorer and the most successful player in club history. I would have liked to share moments with him so that he passed on to me all his experience. “
Current Estudiantes chairman and former Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron has also expressed his appreciation for the left-winger very clearly.
There couldn’t have been a better manager in the world to prepare the youngster than Pepe Guardiola and he did the right thing by choosing the Etihad as his future destination. While it’s hard to predict how much playing time Sarmiento will have next season, his time at Manchester City will be one to watch and hopefully he can add to the big list of successful South American superstars at the Etihad.
