Mom turns IKEA play kitchen into a fully functional kitchen for her little one
Tyne Appleton (@mom) is a TikToker who enjoys sharing parental videos and satisfying organizational content. the cunning parent recently shared how she edited her IKEA play cooking for her toddler, adding everything from silverware to running water.
In the video, Tyne shows that the original toy kitchen comes complete with a sink, stove, and cupboards. Of course, the sink does not work and the cupboards are bare.
To modernize his playful kitchen, Tyne begins by replacing the fake stove with a real cutting board. She sticks the cutting board on the stove and adds a few toy knives for her toddler to use.
Then she fills silverware baskets with child-safe silverware in a variety of colors and sizes. She adds silverware, along with a few plates and bowls, to the play kitchen cupboard.
Last but not least, Tyne turns the Ikea play sink into a real sink with running water. To operate the sink, she drills holes in the fake drain of the toy sink. Then, she replaces the fake faucet on the sink with a real one and uses a plastic tube to connect the faucet to a pot filled with water under the sink. Finally, she places a second empty pot with a funnel under the drain to collect the water.
In a later video, Tyne shows his one-year-old daughter running the sink. The adorable toddler spends time slicing bananas on his cutting board, filling cups with water in the sink and, of course, splashing water on the floor.
“Winning the parents! “
Viewers were impressed with Tyne’s cooked construction video and jumped in the comments to express their admiration for the creative parent.
“I would have been so happy to have one when I was younger,” a TikToker replied.
“I’m 16 but want one in my room now,” wrote one teenager.
Another TikTok user replied, “It’s probably fantastic for developing minds. Parental victory.
Tyne’s play kitchen is a great educational tool as it allows her son to both mimic the way adults use a kitchen and to move around while playing creatively. Who Said Learning Can’t Be Fun?
