Quarantine Dance Competition Offers US $ 5,000 Prize | Entertainment

Locked up due to the coronavirus pandemic, many Jamaicans have been forced to dance in their homes and yards as dance halls and clubs have all been closed. But now people can unleash this “inner dancer” in a competition and win real cash prizes.

The Quarantine Dance Xplosion 2021 online competition is organized by the American entertainment company Up A Hill Management.

They are looking for 14 dance groups in Jamaica to participate in an online dance competition. The competition is open to dance groups of three to six people and all age groups residing inside and outside Jamaica. Entries are accepted in the categories roots reggae, dancehall, contemporary / classical reggae, dancehall reggae, dance story, traditional folk forms, hip hop, jazz, modern contemporary, ballet and even ballroom dance.

“Everyone loves to dance. The Caribbean is a cultural community, we can appreciate the different styles of dance available around the world. So this competition is open to anyone who meets the criteria, to any age group, ”said Janet Sinclair, Managing Director of Up A Hill Management.

The registration process began on April 2, 2021 and ends on May 20 at midnight. Applicants can download the registration form from the company’s website and follow the instructions.

A panel of three professional judges – graduates of Edna Manley College for Visual and Performing Arts – will review the videos and choose 14 dance groups from the applicants. Selected candidates will be informed by e-mail.

“The dance competition is what brought dancehall to life in communities around the world. It has come in many different forms, and each has left its mark on history, and that is the subject of this competition. The blood, sweat and tears that go into the choreography of a dance competition we will all document on our YouTube channel. That’s why we love it, why we do it, the struggles we face and what it’s really about, ”Sinclair said.

Each week, two groups who submitted their videos via email will be uploaded to the Up A Hill Management YouTube channel. Fans will vote for the videos and the group with the most votes will move on to the next round. The contest officially begins on May 22 and ends on August 21.
